DUALTRON STORM ELECTRIC SCOOTER – PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Dualtron Storm is a new generation electric scooter from the Minimotors Dualtron series. It also features the world’s largest removable battery for an electric scooter. The large 72V/31.5Ah/2268Wh battery weighs 14kg and allows for a range of up to 130km on a single charge. This battery can also fit into a backpack, making it possible to use two batteries to travel long distances, such as from Tallinn to Tartu—an option not available with other electric scooters on the market. The battery is also lockable with a key to enhance theft protection.
A practical application of the removable battery is the ability to charge it separately at home—there’s no need to carry the electric scooter up the stairs for charging. This is also an ideal solution for couriers who want to use the Dualtron Storm electric scooter all day for work. The Dualtron Storm electric scooter is essentially the successor to the Dualtron Thunder, one of the world’s most popular dual-motor, 11-inch wheeled powerful electric scooters.
In addition to the quickly removable battery, the new generation Storm has also received a new look. The electric scooter is more striking than ever due to its aggressive design elements, making it as noticeable as a supercar on the streets. The motor controllers are innovatively placed under the rear foot support plate, allowing more space under the deck for a larger battery pack. A new level of user-friendliness and visual design has been achieved with a module on the left handlebar for switching lights and riding modes. The Dualtron Storm also retains the lower handlebar shock absorber, which reduces vibration transmitted to the hands, and foldable handlebars from the previous generation.
MINIMOTORS DUALTRON STORM ELECTRIC SCOOTER – A TECHNICAL MASTERPIECE
Minimotors, as the creator of the Dualtron brand, is the world’s oldest company involved in the development and production of electric scooters. Minimotors began developing electric mobility technology at the end of the last century. Initially, the product range was quite different from today’s offerings, including four-wheel drive electric ATVs, tracked terrain vehicles like the DTV Shredder, and electric 3-wheelers for the elderly. This period allowed Minimotors to later become a pioneer in the field of electric light mobility, holding a significant advantage over competitors with its established patents and tested technical solutions before the electric mobility revolution. In 2015, Minimotors became the inventor and first marketer of the world’s first dual-motor electric scooter, the Dualtron.
The Dualtron Storm electric scooter is equipped with front and rear 500W peak power BLDC motors, giving the scooter a total impressive power of 1000W (or 1kW). These motors enable the Storm electric scooter to reach speeds up to 25 km/h on private roads after modifications and tuning. Significant innovation has also occurred with the motors. The new generation Dualtron Storm’s motor cables are connected to the motor stator through a plug installed inside the motor shaft. This means that if there is a need to replace a bent brake rotor or tire, the scooter does not need to be dismantled to access the motor cable.
Additionally, the motors are equipped with replaceable rims. This allows the user to purchase, for example, off-road tires with additional rims, and switching between the two types of tires is very quick and easy, not requiring a tire change. Like all Minimotors Dualtron electric scooters, the Dualtron Storm is equipped with the Minimotors EY3 display-controller, known for the best throttle response and sensitivity. The display’s text, due to its green backlight and black lettering, is readable even in sunlight. The Storm scooter, like the previous generation, is equipped with rubber bushing shock absorbers. There are 5 different stiffness options of bushing “cartridges” available. While somewhat less comfortable than spring shock absorbers, this type of suspension primarily ensures the best stability and handling of the electric scooter at high speeds. Additionally, comfort is enhanced by large 11-inch wide 90/65-6.5 size tubeless tires.
PERFORMANCE
The powerful 11″ wheels of the Dualtron Storm house 72V nominal voltage 0.5 kW brushless permanent magnet electric motors that ensure rapid acceleration. The Storm electric scooter can practically instantly reach its manufacturer speed of 25 km/h, even while carrying heavy loads—the manufacturer-specified rider weight limit for the Dualtron Storm electric scooter is up to 150kg. The scooter is also capable of climbing hills with up to a 35-degree incline.
The Dualtron Storm EU electric scooter is equipped with large 160mm brake rotors attached to the motors and the highly regarded NUTT brand hydraulic disc brakes, which are considered to have the best braking feel compared to all other hydraulic disc brakes. All Dualtron electric scooters are also equipped with Minimotors’ patented ABS brakes, which prevent the wheels from locking up when using the magnetic brake. It takes 21 hours to fully charge the 31.5Ah battery at 84V using the 1.5A charger included with the scooter. Fortunately, this time can be reduced to 6 hours with the help of a fast charger.
Lighting and Safety
The Dualtron Storm electric scooter is equipped with front lights that illuminate the road ahead. For lighting the road further ahead in the dark conditions of Estonia, we strongly recommend installing an additional light on the handlebars. Since the Dualtron Storm EU is more akin to a motorcycle than an electric scooter, it is advisable to use motorcycle-like equipment while riding. It is essential to always wear a helmet, preferably a “full-face” helmet with a chin guard. It is also recommended to wear protective clothing against falls, such as pants and jackets with integrated protectors (motorcycle gear). For riders under 16 years old, wearing a helmet while riding an electric scooter is legally mandatory. All Minimotors Dualtron electric scooters can be found here.
The Dualtron Storm electric scooter is street-legal in Estonia according to traffic law, with a manufacturer power of 1000W and a manufacturer speed of 25 km/h. Note: If the user has independently modified the electric scooter to be faster or more powerful than the above-stated parameters, then Scooter World is not responsible for any fines due to legal violations, police confiscation of the electric scooter, or other types of damage caused by violations.
