DUALTRON THUNDER 2 ELECTRIC SCOOTER – PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Dualtron Thunder 2 (DT2) electric scooter is the successor to the original super scooter, the Dualtron Thunder, and the new Dualtron Ultra 2 electric scooter. Similar to the Ultra 2, the Dualtron Thunder 2 is equipped with a new 72V battery pack, which allows for a greater distance to be covered on a single charge due to lower energy loss in the electronics compared to the previous generation’s 60V batteries. The higher supply voltage also helps develop greater power in the motors, thereby achieving significantly better acceleration and speed than the previous generation of Minimotors electric scooters could. The Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooter’s 72V / 40Ah battery is one of the largest in the world and enables a 65kg rider in ECO mode to cover up to 170km on a single charge at a consistent slow speed. Only other Minimotors electric scooters with even larger batteries, such as the Dualtron X2 and Storm Limited, can offer more range.
The ultra-powerful motors develop a total power of 1000W (1kW) and can achieve a speed of 25km/h on the roads. To harness such high power, the DT2 electric scooter is also equipped with a safety feature. Specifically, to unleash the full power, it is necessary to quickly press the Minimotors EY3 display throttle twice in succession. Major updates have also been made to the appearance of the Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooter. Due to its powerful design elements, this electric scooter clearly stands out from other Minimotors models. Like a supercar with a loud voice and an aggressive appearance, this super scooter is impossible to overlook in the street scene.
Due to the square wave type motor controllers generating a loud rumble in the motor, this electric scooter can be heard from afar, and quick citizens might manage to grab their smartphones for a photo before this beauty disappears from view. In the dark, synchronized RGB lights on the deck, wheel swings, and handlebar stem catch the eye. A new level of user-friendliness has been achieved with the lights and driving mode switch module located on the left side of the handlebar, which is also very good-looking and of strong build quality.
MINIMOTORS DUALTRON THUNDER 2 ELECTRIC SCOOTER – TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE
Minimotors is the oldest brand in the electric scooter industry, having started developing lightweight electric mobility devices at the end of the last century. By 2015, they had become the creators of the first dual-drive electric scooter, named Dualtron, which has become synonymous with “super scooter” for many. The Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooter is equipped with front and rear 500W brushless DC (BLDC) motors. These motors enable the electric scooter to achieve a total power output of 1000W (or 1kW).
The new generation of Dualtron electric scooters has received several updates regarding their motors. The power cables of the DT2 scooter’s motors are connected to the stators via a socket mounted on the shaft. This means that if repairs are needed, the scooter does not need to be dismantled just to access the motor cable. The motors also come with a removable wheel part along with the tire. Now, it is possible to purchase off-road or road tires on separate rims, and you no longer have to worry about the (often difficult) tubeless tire changes.
Minimotors has also taken safety to a new level with the Thunder 2 model. Safety during riding is enhanced by especially wide 11-inch tubeless tires equipped with puncture-resistant technology. Even in the event of a complete puncture, an elastic puncture-resistant layer glued to the inside of the tire seals the puncture hole, preventing air from escaping. Like all Minimotors Dualtron electric scooters, the Dualtron Thunder 2 is equipped with a lower handlebar stem shock absorber to reduce vibration during riding and a handlebar with foldable grips.
PERFORMANCE
The Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooter can achieve the manufacturer’s speed of 25 km/h practically instantly – within a second. It is also capable of carrying heavy loads, with a manufacturer-set rider weight limit for the DT2 electric scooter of up to 120 kg. The electric scooter can climb slopes with up to a 40% incline. The Dualtron Thunder 2 features large 160mm brake rotors and hydraulic disc brakes from NUTT, which are highly rated in the world of electric scooters.
Compared to other brands of hydraulic disc brakes (such as Zoom), NUTT brakes provide the best braking feel. All Minimotors Dualtron electric scooters are equipped with a patented ABS system for the brakes, which prevents the motors from slipping (locking up) when using the magnetic brake. The ultra-high-quality 40Ah / 2880Wh battery made from LG 21700 battery modules requires 28 hours to fully charge to 84V with the charger included with the electric scooter. Fortunately, Minimotors has successfully addressed this issue, and with a fast charger, charging only takes 6 hours.
Safety and security
The DT2 electric scooter is equipped with headlights that illuminate the road surface in front of the scooter. For illuminating farther distances, we recommend using an additional light. In addition to front and rear lights, all new generation Dualtron electric scooters are also equipped with turn signals and hazard lights. Since the Dualtron Thunder 2 is more akin to a motorcycle than an electric scooter, it is advisable to use similar equipment as used for motorcycling when riding. It is essential to always wear a helmet, preferably a full-face helmet with a chin guard. It is also recommended to wear protective clothing against falls, such as pants and jackets with integrated armor (motorcycle gear). For riders under 16 years old, wearing a helmet while riding an electric scooter is legally mandatory. All Minimotors Dualtron electric scooters can be found here.
The Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooter is street-legal in Estonia according to traffic laws, with a manufacturer power of 1000W and a manufacturer speed of 25km/h. Note! If the user has independently modified the electric scooter to be faster or more powerful than the specified parameters, then Tõuksimaailm is not responsible for any fines incurred due to violations of the law, confiscation of the electric scooter by the police, or damages caused by other types of violations.
